Who are you and what do you do?

Hey! My name is Rafael Solorio, I’m a guitar player from Arequipa – Peru, and I’ve also recently started recording and producing local bands.

What is your musical journey, where and when did you start and how did you end up where you are today?

I started taking classical guitar lessons when I was 8 years old, I’m 24 now.
Since the beginning I wanted to play rock but my parents wanted me to focus more on the classical side of things. When I was 12 I finally got my first electric guitar and started participating in different bands and projects. When I was 16 I travelled to Switzerland (my mother is Swiss so I’m actually half Swiss, half Peruvian) to study music. 4 years later I came back to Peru after finishing my studies. Since then I’ve been doing a lot of stuff like teaching guitar, working as a session musician, I’ve also played in cover bands playing all over town and also travelling to different parts of the country, meanwhile I’ve been developing my Youtube channel where I post a bunch of guitar and recording related type of stuff, and lately I’ve discovered my passion for producing and recording other people which is my main focus right now, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the whole recording/editing/mixing/mastering process and trying to gain experience by working in loads of different projects.

What are some of your musical highlights?

Last year I finally got to record two of my songs as a solo artist and also make video clips for them which then allowed me to win a national electric guitar contest called G6 and also gave me the opportunity to open for Michael Angelo Batio’s concert in my hometown last December.

Where can we hear/watch your works?

These are the links for all my social media:

What kind of musical tools do you use? (instruments, software, DAW, etc, this is the area for promotion)

I use a lot of different guitars but the main one right now, is my Kiesel Aries 6 string with lithium pickups, although I have an Amp and microphones I record mostly using Amp Sims which give me tons of options and great sounds, my favourite right now is TH3 by Overloud. When it comes to bass I use a Dean Edge 5 string bass with EMG active pickups (I had to replace the neck on this bass cause the original had a lot of problems). My Daw of choice is Studio One 3, I’ve chosen it after trying all the main DAW’s and Studio One felt to be the most intuitive and easy to use for me. I program all my drums and I’ve used a bunch of samplers but lately I’ve been having a lot of fun using the IMGL productions stuff like Kvlt Drums which I used to make my first black metal song ever and now Djenthuggah which is awesome for Modern/Djenty type sounds and also since the samples are raw you can pretty much make them your own which is always a plus.
