What’s your earliest musical memory?

My Dad had a lot of great records by Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc… and those albums were always spinning in my house. Out of his collection, I really took to the Alice Cooper records. The snakes and the ghoulish makeup and Alice’s villainous character appealed to me at a really young age so much so that my parents took me to see him a month before my 4th birthday. I still remember bits of it.

What was the first record you got/bought?

My parents put Alice Cooper’s “Welcome To My Nightmare” 8 track tape in my Easter basket that same year that I saw the show. They also got me a portable 8 track player that I carried around and listened to it on.

What is your favourite listening medium and why?

I’m a vinyl guy. Always have been. I use an iPod classic in the car but at home, it’s all vinyl.

One album you’d like to hear re-recorded/mixed/mastered/done differently?

I’m not a fan of re-recorded albums. They never capture the original feel. I was looking forward to the Voivod remasters for years and those sound great! I wish Metallica would get around to making the Master of Puppets box set the way they did the first two albums.

How much do you listen to your own records?

While they’re being recorded you have to listen a thousand times. When it’s finally finished, I play it for a week or two and that’s about it. You’re pretty burned out on it by the time it’s released.

Is there a genre/thing that you wish would see a second coming? Is there a combination of sounds/styles you’d  like to hear that hasn’t been done yet?
It would be great if a wave of.bands came out that were a fraction as good as the hard rock/metal and punk bands of the 70’s and 80’s but I don’t see it happening.

How do you feel about the current state of music production/music business?

Bands on our level mostly break even or even lose money. You do it because you love it or you don’t do it at all.

What do you think will be the listening medium/environment in let’s say 10 years from now? Do you think digital will reign supreme or do you think there’ll be a physical medium that will catch up?

I’ll be listening to vinyl.

Any hot new bands out there we should check out?

I’m listening to Ted Nugent right now so you’re probably asking the wrong guy.
