What’s your earliest musical memory?
My earliest memory of music in the rock sense is my dad listening to Bob Dylan’s Desire record. I I remember really liking the song Hurricane.
The first record I bought with my own money was either Twisted Sister Stay Hungry or Ratt Out of the Cellar. Could have been both at the same time, but I remember bought them at Caldor.
What is your favourite listening medium and why?
I would say vinyl even though I don’t have the time to sit down and listen to records that often. I just like the overall experience of vinyl. Unfortunately, most of my music listening happens on CD in the car or at the computer.
By us it would be Condemned to Suffer. I blew out my vocals early on and I hate the vocals on that record. As far as other bands, I would love to hear the first Starkweather, Crossbearer recorded in a big studio.
How much do you listen to your own records?
Not much at all. I do listen to the albums when we first record them over and over. Mostly to pick out what I hate about them.
I would love to see real crossover happen again. Not just the music, but the scene itself. I loved the dirtiness and ugliness of bands like Carnivore and Nuclear Assault. That type of grime doesn’t exist anymore. Everything is so safe and packaged today.
How do you feel about the current state of music production/music business?
Again, I think so much stuff today is super polished and weak. I think some of it is trending in a positive direction though. Some bands are trying to capture that old sound production.
It looks like vinyl is making a strong comeback. I hope that trend continues.
Any hot new bands out there we should check out?
Mindforce from New York is a great one. Departed from New Jersey is also doing cool things.
