Rant: Cold As Life

What’s your earliest musical memory?
Craig: Listening to my Moms 8 tracks when I was a little kid.
Jesse: It was being 14 seeing Cold As Life in the early 90’s, unbelievable show. I think it was Cold As Life and Earthmover. Crazy.

What was the first record you got/bought?

Craig: Kiss Alive 2
Jesse: Pantera – Vulgar Display Of Power

What is your favourite listening medium and why?

Craig: I like Spotify Pandora and my iTunes based solely on convenience. Digital.
Jesse: I love HC mostly, older stuff 90s.. Also I love older Hip-Hop and some Folk Music as well

One album you’d like to hear re-recorded/mixed/mastered/done differently?
Craig: Metallica’s And Justice For All. Crank the bass.
Jesse: That’s a hard one, not sure.

How much do you listen to your own records?
Craig: Not often enough. A few times a week.
Jesse: I listen to Cold As Life almost every day since I was like 14.

Is there a genre/thing that you wish would see a second coming? Is there a combination of sounds/styles you’d like to hear that hasn’t been done yet?
Craig: Hardcore Disco with catchy funk bass and crossover styled guitar solos.
Jesse: I’m huge on Code Orange I think they are definitely breaking some new ground.

How do you feel about the current state of music production/music?

Craig: It’s easier for band’s to record and get their music to the masses. They don’t really have to be on a label because they can upload and sell it online.
Unfortunately this is a double edged sword because people can get that access and not pay anything for it.

Jesse: I mean it what it is, it’s not the same as it was when I was a kid and that’s probably always gonna happen from generation to generation

What do you think will be the listening medium/environment in let’s say 10 years from now? Do you think digital will reign supreme or do you think there’ll be a physical medium that will catch up?

Craig: I think digital will be around. Vinyl’s made a comeback but I think in 10 years people will be buying elaborate packaging with just pix posters/lyric sheets they can read and hold but the actual vinyl will diminish and download codes will reign supreme. Eventually people are gonna stop shelling out $28 for a 180 gram piece of wax. Kind like how record labels overcharged for CDs and now look at their popularity.

Jesse: Definitely digital and I hate it , I still buy CDs. I think the Technology is good and bad for music, but we ain’t gonna be able to stop it so support your friends in bands and come see them play in real life not just watch it on your phone.

Any hot new bands out there we should check out?
Craig: Too many to list. Just go out and check out band’s performing live. Buy some of their Merch and support your scene. Try not to be closed minded.
